Root Down 2.2

Root Down, an abstract strategy game crafted by designer Martin Grider, is tailored for two players. While the movement rules of the game exhibit a certain quirkiness, players quickly adapt, leading to a fast-paced gaming experience distinguished by intriguing mechanics.

The game introduces two distinct types of pieces: "kickers" and "roots." Kicker pieces require proximity to a root piece in order to move, as root pieces themselves remain stationary. The movement of a kicker is constrained to the exact count of adjacent kickers next to its corresponding root.

Upon moving, a kicker "kicks" all neighboring pieces and then transitions into a new root piece. A unique feature allows players to convert their own root pieces into kickers when kicked, while also facilitating the same transformation for an opponent's roots. Capturing an opponent's root becomes possible if it is kicked again before it has the opportunity to move.

Additionally, Root Down includes an AI player for solo gameplay, alongside pass-and-play options. The game offers a range of variable setups, each providing a slightly different gameplay experience.
